Suganuma Sadayori (菅沼定仍)

Sadayori SUGANUMA was a busho (military commander) in the the Sengoku Period (Period of Warring States) (Japan) and a daimyo (Japanese territorial lord) in the Edo period. He was the lord of Abo Ddomain in Kozuke Province. He was the first lord of Nagashima Domain in Ise Province.

He was born in 1576 at Noda in Mikawa Province as the second son of Sadamitsu SUGANUMA. He succeeded as the head of family when his father retired. He joined the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 and took charge of the guard of Kokokuji-jo Castle and Sunpu-jo Castle in Suruga Province as well as Gifu-jo Castle in Mino Province. As the praise to his contribution, he was entitled to additional 10.000 koku (1 koku is about 180 litters of rice yield) and assigned as the lord of Nagashima Domain in Ise Province as a daimyo of 20.000 koku..

However, he was born weak and he lost his father and legal wife successively. Under such circumstances, he became seriously ill and died in Kyoto on December 5, 1605. His age at death was 30. As he had no successor, his younger brother Sadayoshi became his adopted son and succeeded as the head of family. Graveyard: Sogen-ji Temple, Nishikata-machi, Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture.
